Writer, cultural journalist, curator and specialist in garden art,Hans von Trotha will present his last work, a novel about the life and obsession of the Jewish collector and curator of ancient art Ludwig Pollack, who discovered the famous original arm of Laoocon in the Vatican Museums.

In « Pollak’s Arm » (first published in German, « Pollaks Arm », by Wagenbach Verlag) he tells the last moments of Pollack’s life before his arrest by the Gestapo in Rome. The novel describes not only Pollak’s obsession for ancient art and his encounters with famous personalities such as Richard Strauss, Gerhart Hauptmann and Emil Ludwig. Pollak’s tragedy is also « a lament for the errors of the first half of the 20th century and a swan song for the educated citizen. » (Günter Rinke, Literaturkritik.de).

The event will be held in English with German and Italian interludes and will be moderated by Allegra Iafrate, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Brussels.

« Pollaks Arm »
