In « Pollak’s Arm » (first published in German, « Pollaks Arm », by Wagenbach Verlag) he tells the last moments of Pollack’s life before his arrest by the Gestapo in Rome. The novel describes not only Pollak’s obsession for ancient art and his encounters with famous personalities such as Richard Strauss, Gerhart Hauptmann and Emil Ludwig. Pollak’s tragedy is also « a lament for the errors of the first half of the 20th century and a swan song for the educated citizen. » (Günter Rinke, Literaturkritik.de).

« Pollaks Arm »
