Dave Keating presents 'The Owned Continent' in conversation with Jakob Hanke Vela

Journalist Dave Keating, Brussels Correspondent for the TV news network France 24, will be presenting his new book The Owned Continent  in conversation with Jakob Hanke Vela, Brussels Bureau Chief for the German newspaper Handelsblatt and former author of Politico Playbook. The book traces how Europe's military, economic and cultural dependence on the United States developed over the past 80 years, and posits that the EU's appeasement of Donald Trump over the past year is a result of Europeans' collective psychological dependence on the United States. After diagnosing the problem, the book outlines six essential steps to liberate Europe from America's grasp. 

Dave is an American-born journalist who has covered EU politics for 20 years, drawing upon his on-the-ground reporting experience in Brussels, London, Paris, Prague, Berlin, New York, Chicago and Washington. He is the author of Gulf Stream Blues on Substack, known for his clear no-holds-barred analysis of EU affairs. Previously he was a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council and he was the editor of EuropeanVoice.com, a side publication of The Economist. He was ranked the top EU social media influencer in 2023. In addition to being an American citizen, he has two EU passports.
