"Everything We Do is Music: How 20th Century Classical Music Shaped Pop Music" Talk and book signing with Elizabeth Alker

Elizabeth Alker is an author, journalist and radio presenter. She presented Unclassified and the afternoon show, Classical Live, on BBC Radio 3, and worked as a reporter and presenter for Radio 6 Music. Born to classically trained pianists, she grew up learning the clarinet, recorder and piano.

In her book, Elizabeth examines how much the world of pop music owes to classical composers. She traces the influence of avant-garde composers and sonic experimentation on The Beatles' 'Tomorrow Never Knows', as well as the lineage from Stockhausen to Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love'.  She shines a light on the rich tapestry that exists between pop and classical music through exclusive interviews with Sir Paul McCartney, Steve Reich, La Monte Young, Nils Frahm, The Blessed Madonna, Jonny Greenwood, and Jean-Michel Jarre among others.

Elizabeth will be in conversation with Brussels-based music journalist Simon Taylor. There will be a chance to ask questions and to buy signed copies of Elizabeth's book.
